"Hi auntie I watched Finding Nemo and peed on the couch."

Written by , Posted in health and beauty, nephew, shopping

CAPES [something empowering] The last time I babysat for my nephew, we watched Finding Nemo and he peed on the couch, but didn’t tell me until I found it later after I had put him to bed. Today when I saw him, he said “Hi auntie I watched Finding Nemo and peed on the couch”. Telling the truth is important. Whether it’s in the moment, or a few days/weeks/years later…it’s important to fess up. Another important lesson I learned from an incredibly amazing and adorable 2-year old.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction]
Lately, I’ve been really into cake stands and trays. This cake stand is creatively made from a vintage glass and orange plate. Guess who’s headed to the antique store?

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] This 2-minute “how to” tutorial for drying bangs definitely beats this dude’s video (plus, do guys really consider themselves as having bangs??).

Be yourself. Everyone else is taken. (Oscar Wilde)

CAPES [something empowering] It turns out that patience is worth it (big surprise here, as a patience-hater). This may not hold true in all circumstances, but sometimes it really does pay to wait.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] This song and the animation blob makes me smile.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] My brother taught my nephew a new word: “peaches”…but through his 2-year old mouth it sounds like another word…

"We don’t see things as they are. We see them as we are." -Anais Nin

CAPES [something empowering] Your perspective is different than mine. My perspective is different than yours. Respect means understanding what it means to interact with others despite differences. To reject diversity simply means you demand others to see things as you see them, which will never happen.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] Jaydiohead. A mash-up of Jay-Z and Radiohead.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] Recently, my nephew took his first sip of carbonated water. He thought it was funny. And I think he is funny.

tomorrow you can better your best

CAPES [something empowering] Just give it the best you got today, and tomorrow you can better your best.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] The Cristy Carner salon in Fremont is super-fabulous. Treat yourself to a wax or facial…and make sure you ask for Jolene :)

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] I made Cooper a cape for Christmas. He loves Elmo, so of course it features the crazy red muppet.

PS-please note the date and time of this post – it was intentional.

"If it’s not either of us, tell me who are we fooling?" (Brooke Fraser)

CAPES [something empowering] Learn the art of holding your tongue. And that’s all I have to say about that.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] I am really loving the new Brooke Fraser album, featuring Aqualung and William Fitzsimmons.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] For my 29th birthday, I asked for another niece or nephew. And come April of this year, I’m getting my wish! Cooper will be a big brother to the newest baby boy of the fabulous VP family. Congrats to my brother and sister-in-law!!

Be ruthless, but not lethal.

Written by , Posted in Dutch, football, Holland, nephew

CAPES [something empowering] Competitiveness is healthy as long as it’s not tearing down your opponent – physically or emotionally. So, proceed with caution: be ruthless, but not lethal.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] With the World Cup now over (and no, I don’t want to talk about it), my schedule is wide open. What’s a girl supposed to do with no 4am games? Solution: I’m gonna start following a few club teams, as well as hang out with my nephew more. I’m kinda in love with him, and it just so happens that his mom is my bestie.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] I have a drinking problem. Every time I take a swig from my SIGG, the post-sip-flick-of-my-wrist results in water splashing through the tiny opening and onto my face. Can anyone help me? Please advise.

Strrrrrrrretch yourself.

Written by , Posted in glassybaby, nephew

CAPES [something empowering] The pursuit of happiness is the source of all unhappiness. Look around you…find something to be thankful and happy for in your present state. Gratitude can be a really good feature.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] Glassybaby isn’t a new trend, but giving to Haiti is…and thru the end of February, when you purchase a Glassybaby, mention “Haiti” and we’ll donate 10% to the relief efforts being made by Red Cross. If purchasing online, put “Haiti” in the promo code.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] When my nephew wakes up from his nap, he shoots his arms straight up and stretches for a good long while. I am inspired – I need to stretch more. Thanks again, Coop, you’re always teaching me something.
