I’m too old for this…

Written by , Posted in shopping

CAPES [something empowering] It’s easier to communicate with other people when you can lose the passive-aggressive undertone.  Get over it already.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction]  This “squishable” sloth keeps popping up on my facebook adverstisements.  If it doesn’t leave me alone, I might justify purchasing one.  For my nephews, of course.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy]   This weekend I’m cutting down my first tree.  My bet is that I can do it in less than 15 seconds.

giving outfits a test drive

Written by , Posted in glassybaby, shopping

CAPES [something empowering] As of today, glassybaby has given over a million dollars to charitable causes dedicated to healing.  Their one-of-a-kindness now has a new goal: one million more.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction]  I have a boot problem.  Okay, addiction.  Currently saving up for these.  They look like they are made for walking, and [by this time next year] that’s just what they’ll do

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy]  Does anyone else give special occasion outfits a test drive?  Translation: I’m going to a garage dance party tonight in honor of my sister-in-law turning the big 2-9 (I love you Afton!!), and I’ve been testing out dance outfits all week.  Is it just the planner in me, or do other people do this too?

Don’t pay full price for fashion.

Written by , Posted in shopping

CAPES [something empowering] I recently heard the following advice: “the key to unlocking where you’re currently stuck is thankfulness.”  I’m thankful for that reminder.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] Evelyn Rose is a new consignment shop in my neighborhood, and I love not paying full price for fashion.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy]  Yesterday I cleaned out my garage, and simultaneously visited memory lane from the past 31 years of my life.  Various hairstyles haunted me as I cleaned out box after box.  Pictures showing hair that was permed, dyed with sun-in, streaked with plantium blond, and cut to a bob above my ears made me extremely grateful for my hair today.

don’t let yourself be hoodwinked into buying things that you don’t need…with the exception of these socks.

Written by , Posted in glassybaby, shopping

CAPES [something empowering] I’ve been guest-blogging for glassybaby!  You can check out my posts here and then click “from the stores.”

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction]  Support a local company!  SeaTown LAX has awesome socks featuring the Seattle skyline.  And who cares if the average age of those that wear them is 13?  I’m wearing my pink ones tomorrow.  Proudly.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy]  Words that I would like to add to my daily vocabulary: hoodwink and bamboozle.

"Hi auntie I watched Finding Nemo and peed on the couch."

Written by , Posted in health and beauty, nephew, shopping

CAPES [something empowering] The last time I babysat for my nephew, we watched Finding Nemo and he peed on the couch, but didn’t tell me until I found it later after I had put him to bed. Today when I saw him, he said “Hi auntie I watched Finding Nemo and peed on the couch”. Telling the truth is important. Whether it’s in the moment, or a few days/weeks/years later…it’s important to fess up. Another important lesson I learned from an incredibly amazing and adorable 2-year old.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction]
Lately, I’ve been really into cake stands and trays. This cake stand is creatively made from a vintage glass and orange plate. Guess who’s headed to the antique store?

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] This 2-minute “how to” tutorial for drying bangs definitely beats this dude’s video (plus, do guys really consider themselves as having bangs??).

communal hope

Written by , Posted in recipe, shopping

CAPES [something empowering] When you don’t have the strength or desire to hope, it’s okay let others hope for you. Putting your trust in communal hope gets you through until you have the strength to hope again.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] This week, I made Beecher’s “World’s Best” Mac & Cheese using their own recipe. Congratulations Beecher’s, you certainly have earned that title as well as made it to my personal addiction list.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] The website 20×200 is a fabulous resource to help you redecorate or incorporate art into your home! Limited edition prints start at $24, and each week new prints are added to the site. Yesterday, I purchased this artsy map of Amsterdam.

say no to crack, and yes to cigarette [cut jeans].

Written by , Posted in shopping

CAPES [something empowering] C.S. Lewis once said that “the heart never takes the place of the head: but it can, and should, obey it.” So, it’s okay to follow your heart, but don’t forget to use your head.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] Tired of skinny jeans that you’re constantly yanking up to keep your crack from showing? Here’s your remedy: high rise skinny jeans. The cigarette high-rise cut from Urban Outfitters are simply amazing and come in super bright colors.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] It’s a sad fact that when it snows in Seattle, my volvo cannot make it out of my parking lot (lame excuse: my parking space is in the middle of a small sloped hill). Luckily, I have two capable legs that can get me to work and back if I need to make a run for it.

cupcake sandwiches and a sweet girl turns eighteen

Written by , Posted in cupcakes, shopping

CAPES [something empowering] As often as you can, avoid the “maybe” reply. “Maybe” communicates lack of commitment, and we see right through your “I’ll be there unless something better comes up” cover-up.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] Do you own belts that are too big? Or when you wear them over a cardigan, they flare out in an annoying way? Solution: beltloopy.com. Love these.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] Tonight I had the privilege of attending the 18th birthday of someone super special, not to mention she is probably the most faithful reader of this blog. The cake for the festive occasion came in cupcake form, and I was so proud to see all the ladies correctly eat their cupcake sandwiches (which allows for equally proportioned cupcake-to-frosting bites).

pumped up kicks

Written by , Posted in shopping

CAPES [something empowering] Laugh so you don’t cry (sometimes, this works…thanks Andy Davis, and Roomie-room-room-room).

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] I’ve done the legwork, Ciao Bella boots are wear-all-day-long comfortable, Frye boots are unique and stylish, and Hunter wellies are Seattle-rain-friendly. I’ve got my pumped up kicks and I’m ready for fall.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] I love this over-priced item in orange. And I’ll dream about it upon my wrist until I can find it on eBay.

There’s no weakness in forgiveness.

Written by , Posted in glassybaby, shopping

CAPES [something empowering] Forgiving someone doesn’t make you weak. There’s no weakness in forgiveness.

COFFEE [latest trend or addiction] Modcloth has fun vintage, indie clothes. The site also gives you the freedom to order a few sizes at once, because whatever you don’t keep you can ship back for free. Love that.

THE COLOR ORANGE [something noteworthy] I just got this picture printed on a canvas. Thanks Groupon!
